Scaffolding is a framework made of MS. It is erected to offer a stable working platform to facilitate the building construction. It is erected with metal tubes and wooden platforms. It is a platform on which workers stand to perform their work of building construction.
Scaffolding Components
“Tube and fitting” is the standard method of scaffolding. The scaffolding structure is made up of several different components having different job and support the scaffolding system entirely. The main components of scaffolding system are as per following.
Standards:
They are called uprights, also named vertical tubes.
Ledgers:
Ledgers are the horizontal tubes which run parallel to the building. These are fixed to the standards.
Transoms:
These are the smaller tubes laid horizontally. These are supported by the ledgers. They form the base for working platform.
Couplers:
These are used to fix together standards, ledgers and transoms.
Bracing:
To give the structure rigidity, a system called bracing is used.
Ledger bracing:
Creating a zigzag shape, Ledger Bracing runs down the side of the scaffolding structure. It goes diagonally from a ledger on one level to the next ledger on the next level.
Façade bracing :
This bracing runs parallel to the building. It gives the framework more rigidity.
Ties:
Making the framework very secure, metal ties are used to secure the scaffolding to the building.
